Become a photojournalist and join our photo competition

Here are the rules of the photo competition:
Article 1
The organiser of the photo contest Magnum's First: The Face of Time (hereinafter: the photo contest) is the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana (hereinafter: the organiser).
The objective of the contest is to select the most expressive press photographs taken in Ljubljana or the locations showcased in the exhibition Magnum's First: The Face of Time (Vienna, London, Dalmatia, Hungary, India), which will be included in the collection of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana.
The Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana are tasked with preserving the heritage of Ljubljana and its inhabitants, which means that the photographers of foreign places must be citizens of Ljubljana (with either permanent or temporary residence in Ljubljana), whereas there are no limitations on the place of residence for those submitting photos of Ljubljana.
The photo contest will be conducted via e-mail. The photographs submitted will be published daily on Jakopič Gallery's Facebook profile and on the web pages of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana. Apart from that, the photographs will also be displayed in the Jakopič Gallery for the duration of the exhibition Magnum's First: The Face of Time.
By sending a photograph to the e-mail address galerija.jakopic@mgml.si, a participant confirms that they irrevocably and unconditionally accept the rules of this contest.
Article 2
The contest is open to everyone who will send their press photographs up to and including 15 August 2012 to the e-mail address galerija.jakopic@mgml.si.
The photographers are responsible for obtaining consent for the publication of such photos from any persons depicted in them.
Submitted photographs must not be more than 5 years old. A short story describing the event captured must be attached to each photograph.
The contest is only open to photographers with their own original photographs (hereinafter: authors). By submitting a photograph to the contest, each participant declares that it is their own original work.
Persons employed by the organiser of the contest, members of the expert jury as well as their close relatives are not allowed to participate in the contest.
Article 3
There will be two methods of selecting photographs:
1. At the end of the exhibition Magnum's First: The Face of Time, the expert jury will select from all photographs submitted the most interesting ones to be included in MGML’s photographic collection.
2. Each day, friends on the Jakopič Gallery’s Facebook profile will vote for their favourite photograph. Photographs receiving the most votes will also become part of the Museum’s photographic collection.
The authors of selected photographs will be awarded:
- an annual pass for all MGML’s exhibition spaces (City Museum of Ljubljana, City Art Gallery of Ljubljana, Vžigalica Gallery, Jakopič Gallery, CC Tobačna 001, Bežigrad Galleries 1 and 2, Plečnik House, Ivan Cankar Memorial Room, Oton Župančič Memorial Collection, archaeological parks); and
- books of photographs by two renowned Slovenian press photographers.
The award is not redeemable for cash.
Article 4
The expert jury is made up of Marija Skočir (MGML), Blaž Vurnik (MGML) and Dejan Sluga (Galerija Photon) and Meta Krese (photographer).
Article 5
You can enter the contest by sending to the electronic address galerija.jakopic@mgml.si your photograph together with the following information:
- the title of the photograph;
- the story behind the photograph (including details of where and when it was taken); and
- details about the author (first name and name, address and place of residence, date and place of birth).
A maximum of three photographs is allowed per participant.
The submitted photographs must be digital or digitalised in a resolution of not less than 2,400 x 3,600 pixels and not exceeding 5 MB. The photographs must be submitted in JPEG format. Photographs sent in raw format will not be included in the selection of the contest. Photographs may be colour or black-and-white.
The contest is open from 29 May up to and including 15 August 2012. Only photographs submitted up to and including 15 August 2012 will be accepted.
The winning photographs and details of the authors will be published on 5 September 2012 at www.mgml.si and on Jakopič Gallery’s Facebook profile.
If the author of a submitted photograph is a minor, their parents’ or guardian’s written consent (the form is found below) must be submitted along with the personal details.
The jury’s decision shall be final and not subject to appeal.
Article 6
By entering the contest, an author agrees that, in the event their work is selected, their personal details (first name, name and place of residence) may be published. The winning authors will be informed about the selection by e-mail by 5 September 2012.
Authors of the selected photographs will either collect their awards from the Jakopič Gallery or receive them by post.
Article 7
All authors entering the contest allow the organiser to transfer all material rights of the authors pertaining to all photographs submitted for the purpose of publishing them in printed and electronic media as well as other marketing tools, without limitations in terms of content, place and time.
In addition, they also allow the publication of the photograph, first name, name and place of residence on the web pages of MGML and Jakopič Gallery’s Facebook profile, in printed and electronic media and other marketing tools designed to promote the contest.
The authors of photographs guarantee that the works they submit are their own original works, that no rights of third parties apply to them and that no other rights are violated by them.
Article 8
MGML may amend these Rules if required for reasons of a technical or commercial nature or reasons on the part of the public. The Rules and any amendments thereto shall be published on the web page www.mgml.si.
Article 9
Any complaints relating to the contest can be sent by e-mail to galerija.jakopic@mgml.si.
Article 10
In the event of a dispute arising from the contest which cannot be settled by agreement, the court in Ljubljana shall be the competent court.
