Janja Kosi

Butterfly House

18. 1. 2023–21. 2. 2023

Her artwork typically features spatial installations and the integration of various media. Kosi often explores the concepts of (non)space, home and domesticity, and the relationship between man and architecture.

Visions of architectural memories
The exhibition consists of three cycles: brighter and lighter, darker and blacker, and more colourful artworks. The lighter and darker works are similar in design, with a net as the main structure. On top and underneath the net are entwined pieces resembling architectural elements.
The colourful works of art seem like meticulously arranged museum showcases housing parts of translucent photographic elements of architectural images from various urban environments. Each showcase features a few miniature two- or three-dimensional pieces of art interacting with each other. They can be seen above the showcases’ background, thus giving an impression of floating, independent works of art. Their dynamic essence also hints at flying and passing by. They are suggestions or impressions of a distant view of the past. A reflection of their imaginary forms.
Miloš Bašin

"I materialised a wide-ranging question about the image of a place, and the environment surrounding us as an image of urban architecture. In a way, my starting point lies in my love of walking, which has
almost become my hobby. To put it in a more clichéd way, this world spins fast, we have a lot to do, or our minds are often far away from the actual places we are at, while technology is constantly available and therefore drives our rush to do more. So I try to stay aware of my surroundings at all times, or at least when I go from A to B for an errand or a relaxed walk. “Snapshots” help me catch architecture that managed to attract my attention in a certain moment – without questioning the reason why. I focus my attention on the tools. Thus pulling them out of context, and building them into the network of my internal urban image."
