How the People of Ljubljana Dressed, 1850–1950

11. 4. 2024–23. 2. 2025

Join us on a journey through time with an exhibition on significant changes in the world of clothing. The exhibition will open the doors to the world of dressing as a distinct form of communication, revealing societal shifts and individual milestones that influenced the decisions of our ancestors on how to dress.

After the introductory presentation of the origins of the textile collection of the City Museum of Ljubljana, the exhibition will address questions about who the clothing craftsmen were, what clothes accompanied milestones in our life cycle, what insights lie beneath the clothes, what formal evening dresses were like, how famous residents of Ljubljana dressed, which clothing brands were associated with Ljubljana, when the issue of fur-wearing emerged, how sustainable fashion and modern fashion design influence today's clothing appearance, and which garments from the museum collection 'carry' a special story. A catalog, designed as a fashion glossary, will be released alongside the exhibition.

The exhibition is curated by Mojca Ferle, a Museum Councillor ftm the Department of Urban Ethnology
