“A tower, a mule, me and the garden” – that is how Jože Plečnik imagined his life when he didn’t know yet that after Vienna ...
The exhibition marking the start of the exhibition year 2024 at Plečnik House presents the findings of Darja Pergovnik, MA, heritage conservator at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia. Namely, her work has, for several years, been focused on studying and protecting Plečnik's built and green arrangements in Ljubljana.
Every year, The Architect Jože Plečnik Foundation announces the Plečnik Awards, the main public recognition of Slovenian authors for their outstanding creations in the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture or interior design. This year's prize and award winners are presented in an exhibition at the Plečnik House.
Saša Dev, Plečnikov študent in arhitekt medvojnega Maribora, je eden izmed soustvarjalcev moderne arhitekture v Sloveniji. Njegova arhitekturna dela ostajajo aktualna, saj kot mlad ustvarjalec ni le sledil sodobnim trendom, temveč jih je v kontekstu odnosa do mestnega tkiva prehitel za več desetletij.

On Friday and Saturday, 5 and 6 April 2024, the Plečnik's Ljubljana hackathon was happening at the Plečnik House, an event organised by the house's team as part of Open Atelier, a Creative Europe Programme. The winning team of the two-day competition impressed the jury with their imaginative addition to the permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House.
Today, the Plečnik House had the honour of welcoming two distinguished guests: Dr Aleš Musar, First Gentleman of the Republic of Slovenia, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Slovenia, Jiří Kuděla. Both guests visited the current exhibition 'Plečnik and Ljubljana: Shaping Open Space' in the company of Blaž Peršin, Director of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, Ana Porok, Curator of the Plečnik House, and the exhibition’s author, Darja Pergovnik, MA, from the IPCHS.
Four intense and inspiring days of workshops, organised in Ljubljana as part of the European project Open Atelier, are now behind us. The event brought togfether our project partners from Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, and Italy. As part of the project gathering, we also organised a special concert in the very heart of Plečnik’s Ljubljana.
Plečnik House
Walking through Ljubljana it is impossible to ignore the abundance of arrangements and architectural creations made by the Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. Born in Ljubljana, Plečnik learned his craft in Vienna and acquired a creative broadness of mind in Prague. He deftly implemented his skills as he returned to Ljubljana, where he created the phenomenon now called Plečnik’s Ljubljana. Many of his ideas were conceived in his home, a house in Trnovo, a monument of national importance since 2009 and today a public museum. You are kindly invited to visit the Plečnik House and learn about this modest man responsible for such monumental architecture. Enter the house in which Plečnik’s Ljubljana was created!
